Here’s everything you need to know about the Netflix Original movie Bright

Image
Netflix will launch its first streaming-only franchise, with the news (via Bloomberg) that it’s greenlit a sequel to Will Smith film Bright, which is set to stream beginning December 22. Bright has the budget of a Hollywood blockbuster, and a fantasy setting that could be a good fit for an episodic film franchise, given what has traditionally done well with fans in terms of big-budget cinematic universes. Bright had a budget of $90 million, and of course stars Will Smith, himself a draw that you’d typically associate with big Hollywood theatrical productions. It’s not the typical Netflix original movie; those tend to be indie films with modest budgets, and a better chance of resonating with home audiences than dazzling with big-screen special effects. There’s a lot riding on this franchise, now that Netflix has decided to dip its toes into these waters: Sequels are reliable revenue wells for Hollywood studios, as proven by the continued success and popularity of series inclu...

Microsoft is making subreddits more searchable with Bing

Image
Microsoft today announced a partnership with Reddit to surface the social news site’s content high up in Bing search results, so that searching for specific Reddit communities, pages, and info will spit back information gleaned from subreddits, AMAs, and other threads in a dedicated section. The news, part of a suite of new artificial intelligence-powered features underlying Bing’s search function, works by way of what Microsoft calls intelligent search. The company says intelligent search uses natural language processing to pair Reddit content with the appropriate search terms. The Reddit integration works in three ways. First, by typing in the name of a subreddit on Bing, you’ll get a live snapchat of that subreddit’s top threads displayed in the search results with links to the individual pages. Bing will also include Reddit AMA questions and answers for a celebrity who’s done an AMA, with the content showing up on the person’s search card, which will be accessible just by sear...

The actress details her experience making the movie Frida about Mexican artist Frida Kahlo with Weinstein. She alleges not only having to say no to his sexual advances, but also having to endure his anger, his criticism of her acting skills, and his demands for a nude sex scene in the film. “Little did I know it would become my turn to say no,” she writes. Hayek claims she said no to a laundry list of sexual harassment including him showing up at her hotel room door and demands that she take a shower with him, give him a massage, and let him perform oral sex on her. “And with every refus...

When will HBO air the final Game of Thrones season 9 ? That’s been the question on just about everyone’s mind since the seventh season came to an end this past summer. The eighth and final Game of Thrones season will bring HBO’s most popular series to an end with the promise of being the show’s most cinematic installment yet. To allow for additional writing and production time, HBO hinted that Game of Thrones may not return until 2019. There was some hope that Game of Thrones could return in 2018, but a new interview with Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark on the show, seems to confirm that’s not the case. “Game of Thrones comes out in 2019,” Turner told Variety. “Dark Phoenix [Turner’s X-Men movie] is in November. Then I have a couple indie movies coming out. I’m a producer on my next movie [Girl Who Fell From the Sky]. So I’m really excited about the future.” HBO’s president of programming, Casey Bloys, told reporters in June during a television conference the premiere date...
