Alibaba’s Founder Jack Ma Stars in Kung Fu Movie

Image
Ma Yun, known professionally as Jack Ma sure is one absolutely incredible specimen of a human being. The legendary Chinese entrepreneur, better known for his work as the founder and executive chairman of the Alibaba Group, is prepping to take on a new unexpected role: starring in action movies. The Alibaba boss is set throw down some mad kung fu chops in an all-new martial arts movie, produced by none other than action extraordinaire Jet Li, China’s CGTN reports. The entrepreneur has already confirmed the news on his official Weibo (known as the Chinese Twitter) along with a picture of the film’s poster. Titled Gong Shou Da or the art of guard and defense  the twenty-minute short will feature appearances from Li himself as well as other notable local action stars, including Donnie Yen and Jing Wu. Details of Ma’s involvement in the movie remain vague as of now. While reports claim the entrepreneur will act in the movie, IMDB lists him as the director. In any case, we can’t w...

iOS Camera Permission Lets Apps Take Photos Without Telling You

Image
Apple Inc. has a reputation, rightly or wrongly, for taking security on its iOS platform very seriously. Developer Felix Krause recently called attention to a simple hack that can be used to steal passwords on iOS, and now he’s back with another potential Apple security hole. According to Krause, the way Apple manages the camera app on iOS opens the door for apps to spy on users and upload footage to the internet. Krause is the founder of Fastlane, a developer toolkit that was acquired by Google this year. While he does work for Google, Krause says this is a personal project. All the code (and a sample app) is posted to GitHub, so others are free to check his work. The gist of the problem is that granting the camera permission to an app gives it far too much power. The sample app shows how a seemingly innocent app that’s following all of Apple’s rules could actually be snooping on everything you do. When you allow an iOS app to access your camera, it can take photos and vide...

Google CEO Sundar Pichai to fix burger emoji after heated debate

Image
There’s only one way to build a cheeseburger and Google’s emoji has it all wrong, which was politely pointed out to Google over the weekend. It appears that this cheeseburger emoji is a serious situation because the head honcho at Google promised that the emoji for Google’s cheeseburger would be addressed first thing on Monday. In fact, the CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai, said their team “would drop everything” they are doing and get on this cheeseburger emoji dilemma right away. So what is the problem with Google’s cheeseburger emoji? According to Twitter user Thomas Baekdal, the cheese is in the wrong place. Baekdal tweeted a screenshot over the weekend of the Google cheeseburger emoji along with Apple’s cheeseburger emoji to show a “glaring error” on the part of Google. That error: the cheese is in the wrong place. Once Baekdal’s tweet hit online, the masses backed him up. Google has its cheeseburger emoji with the cheese at the bottom at the very bottom underneath the bur...

Watch Sony's Paris Games Week

Image
Sony Corporation is holding a PlayStation media briefing today, live from Paris Games Week, in which the publisher says it will have some "big game announcements." Of those announcements, seven games are expected to be revealed when the conference kicks off today at 4 PM GMT / 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET (that's 3 AM AET on Halloween in Australia). An hour earlier, the publisher kicks off its pre-show. Sony has announced new content in its pre-shows in the past, so that could be worth watching. It's unclear at this stage exactly what Sony will show off at the conference, but the event will likely include trailers and gameplay from the company's upcoming games, similar to its traditional E3 show. At the event two years ago, Sony revealed Uncharted 4's multiplayer mode, showed off more footage of Horizon Zero Dawn, confirmed Street Fighter V's release date and unveiled Quantic Dream's latest game, Detroit: Become Human. Sony also has its annual PSX celebration wh...

Paul Newman's Rolex Daytona sells for a record-breaking $17.8 Million

Image
An anonymous phone-bidder landed the holy grail at Phillips' 'Legendary Watches of the 20th Century auction' in New York on Thursday, by securing Paul Newman's Rolex Daytona for a record-shattering $17,752,500 - the highest price ever paid for a wristwatch at auction. Arguably the most important model Rolex has ever produced, the Daytona is renowned for the purity of its design and the tell-tale particulars that set one iteration apart from another which often driving collectors into a frenzy when bidding for important examples. But none is more important than the one worn by the man who lent his name to the model, Newman's own Reference 6239, which features a cream dial and a personal inscription on the case back from his wife, Joanne Woodward 'Drive Carefully Me' reflecting the actor's passion for motor racing, the discipline for which the sports chronograph was originally conceived. In 1984 Newman gifted the watch to a boyfriend of their daug...

NikeLab and Supreme Are Reportedly Collaborating on a Set of NBA Jerseys

Image
Supreme and Nike’s Air Humara collection had barely hit shelves when news of the next collaboration between the two brands hit social media. According to sources, Supreme is set to collaborate with NikeLab on a set of three NBA jerseys alongside the shooting sleeve that surfaced in Supreme’s FW17 lookbook. The unconfirmed reports suggest the release will coincide with Supreme’s Nike Air Force 1 Mid collaboration that’s set to drop later this year, with the jerseys priced at $325 each. Nike took over the manufacturing of NBA apparel this year and, while the new designs were lauded, players have had trouble with their jerseys ripping mid-game. Stay tuned for more information.

Deathstroke movie in the works at Warner Brothers

Image
Warner Brothers is already teasing another DC Entertainment adaptation. But instead of focusing attention on superheroes, this new movie would star a big bad villain, Deathstroke. Despite the recent pivot to happier, feel-good fare thanks to "Wonder Woman," and with the swashbuckling "Aquaman" movie finally wrapped, Warner Bros. looks to take a risk on a darker, fairly bloody character. The Times can confirm that "The Raid" director Gareth Evans is in talks to write and direct a "Deathstroke" feature starring former "True Blood" werewolf Joe Manganiello. Fun fact: Manganiello was already on the radar to play Deathstroke. Fans even assumed he would appear in either "Justice League" or the standalone Batman movie, especially after Batman himself (Ben Affleck) released some footage of the character (presumably on the "Justice League" set) via Twitter. However, it looks like most of that cameo has been scrapped...

Instagram gets up close and personal with 'Superzoom'

Image
With the right music and camera effects, Instagram Superzoom can make almost anything look dramatic. Cue the cinematic music Instagram is adding a new video effect right next to the popular Boomerangs that mixes zoom and music for a “suspenseful” but also rather humorous short clip. Instagram launched the Superzoom effect on Thursday, October 26, along with Halloween-themed masks and stickers. Like Boomerang, Instagram Superzoom is a video effect designed to make the clips you share on Instagram or inside of a Story a bit more fun. Inside the Instagram camera, the scroll-through options at the bottom of the screen now include Superzoom along with Boomerang, Rewind, and options for a “normal” video or going live. While recording a video in Superzoom, the camera zooms in three times, paired with music that gets more suspenseful with each zoom. By default, the effect zooms toward whatever is in the center of the frame, but users can also tap an object before recording to zoom into th...

Big tech companies find billions more in profit

Image
Technology companies have been dominating the news and investors’ attention, and a series of earnings reports Thursday afternoon showed why. Four of the most valuable tech companies in the world Amazon.com Inc. AMZN, -0.05%  , Google parent company Alphabet Inc. GOOGL, +0.00% GOOG, -0.08% , Microsoft Corp. MSFT, +0.17% and Intel Corp. INTC, +1.40% destroyed expectations for profit and revenue in third-quarter reports Thursday afternoon, collectively bringing in about $2.2 billion more profit and $19 billion more revenue than in the same quarter a year ago. Stock in those four companies jumped across the board in late trading, which would make them worth even more than the combined market cap of nearly $2 trillion they enjoyed at the end of Thursday’s trading session. Alphabet had perhaps the most astounding beat of the afternoon, as profit rose $1.12 billion and revenue $9.5 billion from a year before. The Google parent company reported third-quarter net income of $6.73 billi...

World First Projector for Nintendo Switch

Image
While the hybrid Nintendo Switch was designed primarily as a home console, due to the fact that it can be used as a tablet or placed in a standalone tabletop mode visible to several players, it’s already considered as one of the best mobile gaming consoles ever. To further expand the hybrid console’s experience, Hong Kong-based startup company YesOJO has unveiled a new Switch accessory with the OJO dock, which features a built-in micro-projector and a built-in battery that offers up to four hours of gaming on the go. Additionally, projection of the screen can range between 30″ and 150″ depending on your distance, as well as offering HD resolution with a brightness of 200 lumens. Other notable features are built-in speakers, an aux port for audio out, support for HDMI connections and additional USB ports for charging other devices such as your smartphone or tablet. The Walking Dead season 8, episode 1 Review

Image
The Walking Dead is back and it seems like we are barreling toward an intense first half of the season. I hope you’re wearing your sh*ing pants because I don’t think Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) is and it looks like he’s in trouble. He never really answered Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) question. Maybe in the next episode? The 100th episode of The Walking Dead, which was directed by Greg Nicotero and written by Scott Gimple, was packed full of juicy tidbits. I’ve been telling people to re-watch it. Just re-watch it. Back to Father Gabriel On Talking Dead last night, Seth was saying it was worse to lose Rick (Andrew Lincoln) than it was to lose Negan. And that’s why he stopped Rick from deviating from the plan and just killing Negan. That’s interesting. Seems like there might be a bigger piece of the puzzle that is being set up. I know the first four episodes of season 8 are an action-filled journey, and I can’t wait for you to see it. Again, go re-watch the first episode. It seems...

There Will Be No Sequel for PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds

Image
Over the last past year, PUBG registered a huge success even if it was not officially launched. Despite its popularity and the pleasant way in which the public received it, some people already try to figure out what the sequel will include. However, the creator of the game might destroy everyone’s hope when stating that they did not even plan for a sequel. For almost a year, PUBG was in a state of early access. They postponed the game’s official launch for both the Xbox One and PC. The framework of the game gathered numerous fans. As the story unfolds, we see a hundred people being dropped on a massive island. They will scavenge for gear to become the last one standing in this conflict zone which continuously diminishing. The creator of the game, Brendan Greene, does not wish to save anything from his resources to build a sequel. He argues that his only plan is to continue to build on PUBG instead of developing another game. The new game is a service. However, they will continue t...

Nissan teases mystery SUV

Image
Chances are we’re looking at the rumored electric Nissan crossover based on the Leaf. With the Tokyo Motor Show now only a week away, Japanese car manufacturers are tripping over themselves to tease what we can expect to see at the show. Not a day goes by without a new Tokyo Motor Show concept car teaser. Toyota has already previewed a plethora of concept cars heading to the show, but this latest teaser comes from Nissan. So far, rumors suggest that Nissan could reveal a concept car previewing the long-awaited successor to the 370Z, as well as a new S16 generation Silvia. Now, Nissan has released a mysterious teaser of what appears to be an electric crossover concept. Details are being kept under wraps for now, but Nissan says the new concept “embodies the future of Nissan Intelligent Mobility.” A teaser video shows the concept’s sleek silhouette, featuring a sloping roof, short hood, and a near-vertical front fascia. A brief shot in the video also shows a sign that says “autonom...

Team USA is taking on Japan in a giant robot duel

Image
The fight’s already happened, but will be streamed on Twitch, 7PM PT, Today! We’ve been waiting a long time to see the “world’s first giant robot duel,” and next week we’ll finally get to watch the metal-on-metal action. If you’ve forgotten the background, all the way back in July 2015 a US team of engineers (MegaBots Inc.) challenged their Japanese rivals (Suidobashi Heavy Industry) to a fight, but the difficulty in finding a venue and upgrading the robots has delayed the bout. Well, next Tuesday, October 17th at 7PM PT, the duel will finally be streamed on Twitch for all to see. It won’t be a live event though. In a press release, MegaBots Inc, said that the duel consisted of “multiple rounds of fighting,” and that in order to give the teams time to repair their bots, the rounds were spread out over several days. This meant the fight “could not be livestreamed like a traditional sport.” The duel was held in an abandoned steel mill in Japan, with no spectators beyond the tw...

French Artist Re-imagines Game of Thrones as an Anime

Image
While the intro for Game of Thrones is decidedly unique and helps explain the various geographies and houses that ultimately dictate the power struggle, it is admittedly light on showcasing the characters we’ve come to love over the course of seven seasons. That has all been amended thanks to French animator, Malec, who has reimagined Game of Thrones in an anime format showcasing favorites like Arya, Jon, Daenerys and more which has all been set to a new theme song by KronoMuzik. The result is something that strikes the perfect balance between fan adoration and what could have been if other producers besides D.B. Weiss and David Benioff had gotten involved. Game of Thrones  is a global phenomenon thanks to its rich story, well-developed cast, political intrigue, and shocking twists. But, what if  Game of Thrones  was an anime? We’ll never know, but French artist Malec envisioned what the opening sequence could look like! It’s a wild mix of popular shonen ...

Watch : Sneaky toddler steals Prince Harry's popcorn

Image
A toddler has become the unlikely star of the volleyball at the Invictus Games, after sneaking a few pieces of popcorn from Prince Harry. Emily Henson, 2, was seated next to the prince while watching a match between the UK and Denmark on Thursday. Prince Harry made a new friend at the Invictus Games last night but it appeared two-year-old Emily Henson was only after one thing: his popcorn. Prince Harry has been making many appearances at the Invictus Games this week, including one with his girlfriend Meghan Markle. This was their first public appearance together and has resulted in many engagement rumors. The toddler, who is the daughter of former Invictus Games athlete and Harry's friend David Henson, was shown on television coverage of the match taking no fewer than six pieces of popcorn from the Prince's box, before he realised. And good on her, to be quite honest. Her parents' taxes paid for that popcorn. She deserves it. What good is financially m...
